Mildred R. Beckley Scholarship:
High School: South Hagerstown High School
Mildred Ruth Diehl was born in 1916 directly across the Sharpsburg Pike from South Hagerstown High School. Mildred graduated from the old Hagerstown High School on North Potomac Street in 1933. She married Roger Beckley and together they created and operated Ruth’s Antiques Shop in Funkstown for nearly 50 years. Her daughter Betty first entered her mother’s old high school but transferred to South High the first year it opened and graduated with the second class in 1958. Her daughter Carol graduated after a full four years at South High in 1963. Mildred's daughters have established a scholarship in her name at SHHS since Mildred, too, would have been an alumnae of the school had it been there when she graduated. Award amount may vary.
